Outdoor Enthusiasts of Converse County

The Mountain Bike Skills Park is a collaborative venture between the OECC and the city of Douglas to create a mountain biking venue usable for all ages and skill levels on city land. The OECC is helping make plans for the park, helping choose course designer(s), and helping raise money toward creation of the park.

Both entities believe that creating such a venue will encourage local youths to be active, will bring in income and tax dollars from non-local users, and will be a selling point for businesses and families to relocate to the Douglas community.

Currently the skills park is the next phase, with the idea to create a facility with a pump track, jumps, step-ups, and step-downs to benefit beginers and advanced riders both.

This park is being built on the hillsides 1 block east of Washington Park on land owned by the city.

Stages towards getting the park built:

1. Public Meetings - completed
2. Signed MOU with the City of Douglas - completed
3. Raise money toward getting park built - ongoing
4. Phase One of park build:
   Hire builder to create cross country trail - completed
   Have builder complete cross country trails on top of hills and access up to trail - completed
   Create parking area with city help - completed
   Add signage below and at intersections - partially completed
5. Phase Two of park build:
   Have builder finish upper cross country trails - completed
   Put out request for proposals for skills park design - completed
6. Phase three of park build:
   Choose course builder for skills park - completed
   Facilitate communications between course builder, city, and other parties - ongoing
7. Phase four of park build:
   Order ramps for skills park - completed
   Have builder begin creating skills park area - planning
   Have builder add additional more difficult trails above - planning
